The Nova Sport Pack Box
When a Sport arrived at the supplying dealer, the car was nothing more that a simple Nova 1.3 Base with Daytona seats and the 6 Dial SR clocks. There has always been a myth of the box of parts being supplied in the boot, but in fact it arrived separate to the car, direct from Irmscher UK. The Sport Pack box was in fact too large to fit in the boot of a Nova, and just to be sure, we disproved this myth by testing an original box for size.
In the box was everything needed to transform the car to the exciting little hot hatch we know and love today.
Sport Pack Contents
These pictures are of an actual Sport Pack that was discovered tucked away in a shed. This is the only known Sport Pack box left and an extremely rare item. It was purchased from an elderly gentleman who bought a Nova Sport brand new from a dealership in 1985. The Vauxhall technicians at the time fitted the twin 40 carburetors but were unable to get them running to the gentleman’s liking so he requested that they be removed and back in the box they went. 28 years later the box was listed on Car and Classic website. The box is currently owned by one of our members and is safely stored away.

Each Sport box came with an individual SONO number sticker on the box. You can see on the original box above the number was individually hand marked. Once the Sport had arrived at the dealer, the Sport Pack box would have been sent up and the SONO which would be written on the box would tie in with the Sport that had arrived from the factory. At dealerships this is how they distinguished the cars before they were registered. Nowadays, it’s another handy way of verifying your car and checking everything ties up with the cars history.
