The Nova Sport launch
The Vauxhall Nova Sport was unveiled as a concept at the Birmingham NEC at The October 1984 International Motor show . It was an ideal audience for the launch, with the show packed with 80’s petrol heads. Although it was not officially launched to the press until January 1985 when they press photos could be published.
Originally displayed on a Irmscher UK stand rather than a Vauxhall stand, the Sport was showcased alongside a Nova Spider (freshly converted by Irmscher from a Nova SR in time for the show), and an Opel Manta i240…the Sport was in good company.
This (unfortunately) is as much as our Nova Sport Register team have managed to find out for now – we hope to bring you more. One lead we are trying to look into is that the first car on display was actually a 1.2 with carbs and not a 1.3 as the car was just a concept based on a Swing. We don’t have this confirmed but this information has come from a reliable source.
If you have any information, or photographs from this event we would love to hear from you.
